Shanghai Fisheries Science Park, the first science park on fishery industry in China, was launched and established together by Yangpu District Government, Shanghai Fisheries University and East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. The latter two are the famous university and national scientific research innovation institution respectively in the fishery industry in China. Shanghai Fisheries University owns a lot of key open laboratories and key laboratories, and the first-class scientific research equipment and instruments in China. East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute has been titled as the National Non-profit Scientific research Institution in the second round Reform of Science and Technology System implemented by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and has entered into the National Innovation System. The fishery subjects of both the University and the Institute are in the leading position in whole China, and both of them are also the birthpalce and an important base of Chinese ichthyology research, with numerous varieties of fish specimens.

  At present, Yang District also assembles a large number of fishery scientific research departments with complete fishery subjects and solid scientific strength, such as Fishery Machinery and Insrument Research Institute, Shanghai Academy of Fishery Sciences, Shanghai Fishery Technical Extension Station, etc.. In addition, the District gathers a lot of vigorous fishery science and technology enterprises like Shanghai Deep Sea Fisheries Corporation. All of these provide strong intellectual and technical support to establish Shanghai Fisheries Science Park in the District.

  The function of Shanghai Fisheries Science Park is as follows: the base for new and high-tech fishery enterprises to start business and incubate, the research base for hi-tech fishery enterprises, the talent-training base for new and hi-tech pioneering enterprises, the center of fishery information and communication, the network platform of professional information and the key stage of fishery information and communication in China.
