Founded in October 1996, Shanghai Assets Appraisal Society (SHAS) is a professional non-profit organization for assets appraisal, one that is independently founded and run in Shanghai. SHAS held a general election for the new leadership on August 16, 2003, and now the Society has 64 council members, 15 executive council members, 1 director and 1 deputy director; and its subordinating bodies include registration supervision department and offices.

  In addition to 55 organization members, SHAS has 770 certified individual members and 565 non-certified ones.
SHAS observes the constitution, laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, and abides by the professional ethics; its aim is to render services to its members, the industry, and the government, and act as a link for connecting the government and the members, under the leadership of the competent departments; to safeguard the common interest of the assets appraisal industry of Shanghai and its members by sharing business information; and to facilitate industry-wide fair competition and the sound development of the industry.
