Chongming Industrial Park was established in February 1996 through approval of the People’s Government of Shanghai Municipality. Its planned total area is 10 km². It is located in the west flank of Chongming County and is among the nine municipal industrial Parks of Shanghai.

 Chongming Industrial Park is the unique municipal industrial Park entitled to special preferential policy of the island encompassing “Self-based Island Development and Self-funded Reform”. Especially the policy is extremely preferential for the land price as well as the support and subsidy. Over the years, Chongming Industrial Park has performed the overall requirement of “planning from high starting point, construction at high level and promotion with high speed” and stuck to the principle of “key stressed, strength concentrated and implementation step by step”, so as to actively conduct investment introduction and infrastructure construction. Currently, the industrial Park is characterized by facile communication, adequate power supply, abundance of workshops, broad way and sound environment, and has been the main increasing point for economic development in Chongming. 

Chongming is strategic priority of the third-step development for reform and opening to the outside world of Shanghai in the 21st Century after efforts made in Pudong Area. Based on its own comprehensive superiorities of economic condition, land, environment and costal resources, and the Shanghai-Chongming Cross-river Passage to be established, Chongming will strive to intensify its reform and opening to the outside world, make great efforts to construction of infrastructures, give priority to explore five functions including free trade, transference shipment, export for processing, ecological agriculture and island travel, so as to cultivate the advantageous industries typical of the island and evolve as the new scope for future development of Shanghai.
