Baoshan is an industrial base developed after the foundation of the P.R.C., focusing on metallurgy, port, and energy. It is also the birthplace of Shanghai?s modern industry.

The district has developed three superior industries of iron-steel smelting, metal product manufacturing, electronic product manufacturing, having fundamentally formed an industrial development pattern with predominantly superior industries.

The district has two municipal leveled industrial zones as Wusong Industrial Zone and BaoSteel Industrial Zone, as well as two municipal leveled industrial parks as Baoshan Urban Industrial Park and Baoshan Industrial Park which has been elected as Shanghai?s first "City-level Pilot Industrial Park for Recycling Economy”.
