The economy gross amount of Xuhui district keeps on growing fast. In 2003, the regionally added value had been increased to RMB 7.574 billion Yuan and 14.35% more than last year. Thereinto, the second industry achieved the added value of RMB 1.511 billion Yuan and the third industry achieved RMB 6.063 billion Yuan. The proportion of structure between the second industry and the third industry is 19.95: 80.05. Commerce and real estate industry acted as the mainstays still. Commercial added value was achieved by RMB 1.995 billion Yuan. The added value of real estate was achieved by RMB 1.151 billion Yuan. They took 26.34% and 15.20% in regional added value respectively.  

Commerce is developing in a prosperous status. The consuming ability level of residences stepped up markedly. Consumption of products about auto, communication and commodities of housing expanded continuously. Xujiahui business circle carried out structure adjustments for merchandise and paid attention to increase economic benefits. There are many department stores in the circle such as Orient, the 6th Department Store, Huijin, Pacific, Huilian, etc.. Together with computer markets such as Pacific and Bainaohui, the circle achieved the total amount of social consumable retailing with RMB 6.075 billion Yuan. The community business increased rather fast.  

Constructions of Development Zone

In order to cooperate with universities, colleges, scientific institutions and Caohejing Rising Technology Development Zone, make good use of science and technology resources advantages within the district, speed up the development of high-tech and new-tech industries, the district government made a decision of focusing on developing Xujiahui Science and Technology Concentration Zone and established Some Opinions About Promoting the Development of Xujiahui Science and Technology Concentration Zone of Xuhui District People’s Government of Shanghai City. On Sep. 21, on the Strategy Proseminar of Xujiahui Science and Technology Concentration Zone, the district government brought forward the vision of “3 zones and 3 parks”(Xujiahui Science and Technology Concentration Zone and Shanghai Transportation University Park, Caohejing Rising Technology Development Zone and Xuhui Park, Huajing Industrial Zone and East China University of Science and Technology Industry Park). They also set “3 parks and 3 zones” as key project of “the 10th Five-year plan” within the district. This was an important act of speeding up industrial structure reformation and promoting regional integrated competitive ability.
