Location

Songjiang District is located in Yangtzi Delta, around the upper and middle reaches of Huangpu River, and northwest of Shanghai. It lies 31 degrees north latitude and 121.45 degree east longitude. Being 40 kilometer away from Shanghai Downtown area. Songjiang is an important southwest gateway to Shanghai because of its crises-cross transportation net including Huang railway. Huang highway Huqingping highway and Tongsan state road.

Area

Songjiang District covers an area of 604.06 square kilometers, which is 9.5% of the total area of Shanghai. Ladder-shaped, it is 45 kilometers in length and 50 kilometers in wildth.87.91% of the area is land and the rest is covered with water. With the pevient of 12.09%

Physical features

Since Songjiang District is located in the low-lying area of Tai Lake valley,it is very low and level in physical features, with the earth’s surface of cultivated and land of 27,000 hectares below 3.2 meters.
