GRACEFUL AND FASHIONABLE　COMMERCIAL DISTRICT 

Middle Huaihai Road is a commercial street　that is famous for its graceful and　fashionable style and its delicate taste of　Shanghai culture. And Dapu Bridge is a new　commercial circle emerging recently as an　example of combined economy including　such industries as commerce, restaurants, entertainment and health industry. The total commercial area of this district is 2,700,000 square meters, including a commercial area of 1,210,000 square meters, a business area of 1,490,000 square meters, and a service trade area of 380,000 square meters.     ■CENTRAL COMMERCIAL ZONE 

The eastern part of the commercial street of　Middle Huaihai Road (From Chongqing　Road to the intersection of Xizang Road)　has an 860,000-square-metre area of　first-class office buildings and it is one of the four largest centreal commercial zones of Shanghai. Several scores of the world’s 500 largest and strongest companies, such as IBM, Bayer, Dupont, Cisco, P&G, Huirui and McDonald, as well as 2,000 famous companies with international and national reputation operate in this zone. In the next 5 years, a 400,000 square meters area of first-class office buildings will appear on the south of eastern part of Middle Huaihai Road. This zone will become a prosperous central commercial zone of the largest scale and highest class on the western side of Huangpu River.

    ■MODERN SERVICE AND LEISURE SERVICE INDUSTRY

With the improvement of regional functions, the industry’s structure in the district is being perfected and improved greatly. It is estimated that the third industry which takes service industry as its symbol will increase its population in total added value to 95%.The modern service industry and leisure industry will establish their own comparative advantages. The added value of these two industries will take around 50% of whole district.

    ■PROSPEROUS REAL-ESTATE INDUSTRY

Appearing at the beginning of the199Os, the real-estate industry in this district has grown to become a key industry in Luwan District. Due to its excellent regional position, high-quality residential buildings in the district are always in short supply. Nowadays, the real-estate industry is growing at an annual rate of 10%, and is becoming an important factor pushing the economic development of Luwan District.
