Investment Environment of Huangpu District

Huangpu District, lying at the heart of Shanghai, surrounded by Huangpu River in the east; Cheng Du Road (North), Jin Lin Road, Xi Zang Road (South), Zhao Zhou Road, Zhi Zao Ju Road in the west; and Su Zhou River in the north, boasts the city’s kilometer zero right at the location of International Hotel. 

The district covers 12.85 km2 or 0.2% of Shanghai among which are 11.017 km2 land and 1.837 km2 water. It is composed of 9 communities and 190 neighborhoods with a population of 686,000 thousand up to the end of 1999.
  
 It is also the country’s renowned business and trade hub, with myriads of merchants in its vigorous and prosperous market. Many of Shanghai’s famous businesses are based in the district, including Shanghai No.1 Department Store, Hualian Department Store, New World City, First Asia Jewelry, Lu Bo Lang Restaurant, and Hua Bao Building Antiques. Its Nan Jing Road is known, home and abroad, as “China’s No.1 business street”. And the many renowned streets with distinct features such as Fu Zhou Road, Beijing Road, Xi Zang Road, Jin Lin Road, Huang He Road and Yun Nan Road are all contributing to the dynamic development of the district. 

Moreover, the district is Shanghai’s financial center with 63 foreign and domestic banks such as People's Bank of China, Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of Communications, National City Bank of New York, Bangkok Bank, China Minsheng Banking, Everbright Bank, Bank of Overseas Chinese, and Bank of East Asia.

The district also serves as an administrative and cultural center. Many of the city’s governmental organs are situated in the district, including the City Hall as well as the People’s Congress. It boasts a multiple of appealing cultural facilities namely Shanghai Grand Opera House, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Museum of Natural History, Shanghai Worker’s Palace, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, Shanghai Art Museum, Great World Entertainment Building, Chinese Theatre, People’s Grand Stage, Gong Stage, Yi Fu Stage and the Grand Cinema.

Huang Pu District is one of Shanghai’s major transportation centers. Subway Line1 and line2 join at the People’s Park in the district. The major bus lines converge here, forming the core of the city’s transportation network. And the Yan An Elevated Road of Shanghai’s Inner Ring connects the North-south Elevated Road in the district. It is easy and convenient to get around with such three-dimensional transportation network.  

The district is also one of Shanghai’s hottest tourist destinations. The Bund, museum of world’s architecture, attracts tourists home and abroad. The Yu Garden shopping tourist area appeals friends from all corners of the world with its charming ancient and ethnic flavor and grand size. Nan Jing Road’s newly-established Walking Street serves our guests as a great spot for leisure, shopping and sight-seeing. 

Huangpu has always been a rapidly developing district and its pace is further accelerated by the opening-up and reform policy. Foreign businesses, investments from across the country swarm to the district to boost its development to a new height. The district’s economic structure is greatly optimized. Myriads of modern office and apartment buildings are built up and constitute a grand metropolis view.  

On July the first, 2007, the municipality decided, with approval of the State Council, to combine Huang Pu and Nan Shi districts into one so as to integrate their resources and advantages and to broaden their potential, paving way for further restructuring and economic development. Now, Huang Pu district is bond to be greeted by tremendous prosperity in the new century.
