Established in December 1988, Shanghai Metal Construction Trade Association (SMCTA) is a non-profit social organization as legal person approved by Shanghai Construction Commission and registered with Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.

  It’s supervised by Shanghai Construction Commission in industrial activities, by Shanghai Trade Association Development Bureau in association activities and by Shanghai Social Organization Administration Bureau in registration.

  SMCTA was organized voluntarily by the metal construction design, manufacturing, installation enterprises and institutions and related enterprises in Shanghai.

  SMCTA's mission is to base itself on the market, serve the industry, promote technological progress, strengthen industry self-discipline, protect the rights and interests of the industry, and advance the development of the industry.

  SMCTA’s functions include industry investigation, training, appraisal, statistics, standard formulation, consulting, publication, exhibition promotion, product promotion, and domestic and international exchange.

  SMCTA’s daily works are to develop technical regulations and technical standards of the industry; to conduct industry investigation and form plans for industry development and technical innovation; to supervise the quality of metal construction, and organize appraisal of Golden Steel Awards for high-quality steel structure works; to make industry statistics, set industry quota, calculate industry cost, coordinate industry price and advocate fair play upon the assignment and authorization of governmental departments; to organize training and continuing education, and provide technical consulting, logistics & distribution and industry information services; to provide information via steel structure information website, and Shanghai Steel Structure journal and SMCTA Annual Report; to organize industry exhibitions, product promotion events, technical exchanges to promote new products, new equipments and new technologies; to organize industry internal technical cooperation, technology research, and promote exchange with domestic and foreign trade associations.

  SMCTA is a trade association with nationwide influence, and now has more than 550 members composed of construction, metallurgy, electromechanical, chemical, light industry, electricity and foreign-invested entities, including over 30 design and research institutions (5%), 300 manufacturing and installation enterprises (54%) and more than 200 suppliers of supporting products (36%).
