Established in Dec. 1988, Shanghai Bath Trade Association (SBTA) is a cross-sector, trans-ownership and non-profit industry organization as legal person organized voluntarily by bathhouses, sauna centers, public bathes, convenient bathes and healthcare enterprises and institutions in Shanghai.

  SBTA currently has 160 members of various ownerships, including 40 bathhouse members holding 50% of all the bathhouses in Shanghai and 110 bathroom members occupying 30% of the market share. It has Bathhouse Committee, Body (Foot) Massage Committee and affiliates in various districts and counties.

  SBTA’s mission is to provide services to members, protect their legal rights and interests, implement the policies and laws of the state, act as a bridge between the enterprises and between government and enterprise, and promote the healthy development of the bath & leisure industry of Shanghai.

  SBTA publishes Bath·Leisure (monthly) that provides extensive information to the members; provides scientific basis for regulating enterprise’s activities by developing Shanghai Bath Industry Practices; organizes training for healthcare and foot massagists to improve the their skills and knowledge; issues qualification certificate for technicist with health certificate, training certificate and professional skill certificate according to the requirements of Shanghai Labour and Social Security Bureau, Shanghai Public Security Bureau and Shanghai Health Bureau; conducts the activity of “striving for trustworthy bathing places” to reassure the society and consumers; assists the government in encouraging the industry to provide free bathing services for the old on the Double Ninth Festival and carrying forward the social customs of showing respect to the old.
